Why this exists

Searching for how long is left until something usually means wading through pages that bury the answer beneath adverts, or that quietly stopped updating years ago. The idea here is narrower: one page per event, the number front and centre, and a date you can verify.

How the countdowns work

Every event is stored as an absolute instant rather than a vague day, and all dates are displayed in UTC and labelled as such. Where an event is genuinely local - a public holiday, for instance - the page says which moment it is counting to, rather than guessing at yours.

The timer runs in your browser and updates every second. Nothing about you is needed to make it work.

How events are chosen

Events are added by hand. The bar is simple: enough people are waiting for it that a countdown is genuinely useful, and the date is publicly confirmed or clearly signposted as an expectation.

Dates change - films slip, launches move, ceremonies get rescheduled. When that happens the page is updated. If you spot something wrong, the contact page is the fastest way to tell us.
