About Shrek 5
Shrek 5 opens on Wednesday 30 June 2027 from Universal and DreamWorks Animation. It is the first main entry in the series since Shrek Forever After in 2010, a gap of over sixteen years.
The date has moved twice. The film was first set for July 2026, then pushed to 23 December 2026, and finally to the summer slot it now holds. The December date would have placed it in the same fortnight as Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three; Universal's animated releases have historically performed best in summer, which is where it has landed.
Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz are all returning as Shrek, Donkey and Fiona. Zendaya joins the cast.
The countdown runs to midnight UTC on 30 June 2027. A Wednesday opening is deliberate — animated family films often take the midweek slot to capture the full first weekend of the school holidays.
