About Brazil Presidential Runoff 2026
Brazil elects its president in two rounds. If no candidate wins more than half the valid votes in the first round, the top two meet in a runoff on the last Sunday of October.
In the first round on October 4, 2026, Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) took about 47% of valid votes and President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) about 45%, according to the Superior Electoral Court. Neither passed 50%, so they meet again on October 25, 2026. Runoffs for some state governorships are held the same day.
Polls are open from 8am to 5pm Brasília time (UTC-3), which is 11:00 to 20:00 UTC. This countdown runs to polls opening at 11:00 UTC. The winner takes office on January 1, 2027.
